Lang is in college when he inherits his money, and he doesn't want people to think of him as a rich man who doesn't have to earn his way in the world, so he hides his fortune until he realizes that it will help him win the hand of Charity Ellis.

Sid is described as a handsome, intelligent man. He appreciates Larry's friendship because Larry is a good listener and a loyal ally. Sid is generous and kind, but he grows bitter towards the end of his life as years of being beaten down by Charity.
