Ted met Jesus in the village of Ahuacatlan, and he was among those who travelled back to the border to cross with the group that included Ted. Jesus was accompanied his girlfriend Evangelica, but Ted later learned that she was miserable during her stay in America. Jesus, typical of the young men of this time, believed sexual prowess to be a vital trait. As a result, he had a son by a woman named Maria Elena, and he spent most of his time at home with Evangelica. Jesus is also typical in that he knew he was in serious trouble for taking Evangelica to America against her parents' wishes, something that frightened him. He is described as hard-working, like most men of this ethnicity, social situation and period.
