Courage to Soar is told entirely in the first person and from Biles’ perspective. This is a logical choice for a memoir, as it grants the reader the maximum possible proximity to the narrator and protagonist’s inner voice. For Biles’ memoir in particular, this perspective strongly furthers the impression of inside access that she seeks to convey through the work as a whole. Other depictions of Biles in the media -- news reports, videos of her performance, even interviews—are not as authentic or richly personal as the memoir, and forgoing the first-person perspective would detract from this particular strength.
