What sinister actions does Mr. Gardiner take?

The children are placed in Mr. Gardiner's care to be transported to a London orphanage called the Coram Hospital. Mr. Gardiner's actions are sinister and evil because he sells the older male children to the military, the older female children into prostitution. Infants are buried dead (or alive) in the forest.
