Llosa's narrative features an omniscient narrator who functions as a camera eye describing objects and actions in a given setting. The telescoping of dialogues is also one of the dominant devices used to juxtapose time and space.

I don't know if this allowed but I don't think it is inappropriate. I am American 62 years old and I read the Llosa novels because my wife is from Lima

Why are reading this book are yiu a student ?

I would like to know if there is a character list. I literally stoped and started over at the end of chapter 7 in part 1. I wrote down each new name as I read and tried to map out the characters. I don’t believe that has been possible as I have continued to read through halfway through chapter 9.

Ludovico

Don Fermin

Hipólito

Muelle

Senator Landa

I was hoping the book rag notes would have this kind of detail. How much of my difficulty is not reading it in original Spanish? I like the book but it is extremely difficult.
