Westminster Bridge symbolizes the bridging of the perceived aesthetic gap between the city and nature. Just as the bridge connects either side of the River Thames in London, so does the reader connect the urban and the rural landscapes through their perception of beauty in them both. As they stand on the bridge, they find themselves caught between two worlds, evidenced by the fact that the making alternating references to both the city and nature throughout the poem. They contextualize the beauty of the city in terms of the beauty of nature, and vice versa, praising the inherent majesty of both as a common link between the two.
