In Chapter Fifteen, Napoleon's armies are teetering on the brink of insufficient supplies, and the massive destruction wrought on the supply chain will prove telling as the months wear on; this is a type of foreshadowing of the conditions which will obtain during the siege of Riga, in later chapters.
