Who is Mary Willis Tweedy from Cold Sassy Tree and what is their importance?

Mary Tweedy is Will's mother. Their family is rich, well educated, and highly respected. As a result, Mary sees herself as better than most of the characters we meet in the novel, and only socializes with those she deems socially worthy. Thus, her father's decision to marry Love is met with horror, and Mary immediately comes to hate Love for bringing shame on their family name. Mary sees love as a usurper and fortune hunter.
