Who is Lester Lamb from Cloudstreet and what is their importance?

Lester Lamb is Oriel's husband. Once a farmer, he became a police constable after losing the farm during a time of economic depression. When the family later moves to Perth, Lester helps Oriel in the store. Opening the store was, in fact, Lester's idea.

Over time, Lester becomes the chief baker and ice cream-maker, talents that bring a lot of money to the business. both of which skills bring in a great deal of trade. Lester believes in God, and although many consider him a fool, his children love him. He loves performing, and he finds great joy in singing and playing his instruments at a local club.
