Scoob's suitcase is a symbol of the recent quarrels he has been having with his father when the novel begins. When G'ma picks him up to go on a road trip in the RV, it is mentioned that he already has a packed suitcase because he and his father, James, had planned to go on vacation for Spring break. James canceled the trip because of Scoob's misbehavior at school.
