Pedro is the main character and protagonist of the novel. He is a young boy, very innocent, and very good with animals. ChĂșcaro is Pedro's horse, as Pedro was the one to find, capture, and ride him before anyone else. It's Pedro's refusal to sell the horse, no matter the offer, that causes the novel's main conflict.
