Who is Little Burl Allen from Christy and what is their importance?

Little Burl is the youngest of the Allen boys. He is religious, and filled with the love of God. When accidently discovers the store of moonshine hidden under the schoolhouse, Burl is attacked by Lundy Taylor. As a result, he has to undergo surgery to drain the abcess caused by Lundy's attack.
