The Gilgamesh represents the hopelessness and exhaustion of what is left of humanity. The ship itself is barely put together by a mismatch of old technology from their eradicated ancestors. As humanity becomes more desperate for a home, the ship itself begins to degrade. When Guyen decides to upload himself for a full assault on Kern, the ship is fitted with more technology from the Old Empire who eradicated their planet with similar, selfish desires. Once they land on the planet, the Gilgamesh is destroyed, as humanity no longer craves a home of their own.
