Who is Maurice Goddard from Chasing the Dime: A Novel and what is their importance?

Maurice Goddard is a New York ET investor who comes to preview Proteus. He is a wealthy man with money to invest for the right company. He has a daughter who has Down's Syndrome and his relationship with her makes him wish that science were more advanced when she was born. If Proteus had existed at that time, she might not be saddled with such an affliction. As such, this is a project that he has no trouble getting excited about.
