Mr. and Mrs. Bucket, Charlie's parents, are often described as worrying or frowning. They are not unkind people. It is clear that they cared for Charlie and their family. However, after working hard all their lives, they are tired and worn down and do not have much left to smile about. They tend to be wary of any of Wonka's schemes, and have to be gently talked into going along with them.
