Oko is Esi's first husband. The couple has one son, Ogyaanowa. Oko is embarassed by the fact that his wife seems to love her job more than him, and sadly, after an argument, he rapes her. As a result, Esi divorces him.

Esi later becomes Ali's second wife. After the couple indulges in a passionate affair, he goes to her parents to get their permission for their marriage. Unfortunately, their marriage isn't as close as Esi had hoped. Ali finds himself consistently dividing his time between his two wives, and he suffers great guilt over his neglect. In the end, the couple remains married, but they settle for a close friendship.
