Honor is a recurring idea. The important traits of courage and generosity fall under the general rubric of a noble man's honor. A man of worth, according to the Cid, must work to preserve his honor. In the Cid's case, he has lost a certain amount of honor by being banished by his king, but he manages to recuperate it by being extraordinarily generous and courageous in battle against the Moors.
