Who is Makepeace in Caleb's Crossing?

Makepeace is Bethia's brother. He is a bit slower and less intelligent than Bethia, but he is also more conservative, negative, and judgmental. Over the course of the novel, he becomes more compassionate and even helps Bethia through difficult times.
