During the day the Motilones split into groups. The men go out hunting, and the women begin their work for the day. The children play tag or make their own little arrows and shoot them at targets. After the men return, each family prepares a big meal.

Community can be seen in the way the Motilone catch fish. They catch fish by building dams; the men build a large dam and the women build a smaller one downstream. As a comminuty, they catch the fish by spearing them.

Many consider that the Motilones to be the fastest example of development that has ever occurred in a primitive tribe. Bruce believes that the first reason is because the Motilones are not asked to give up their culture and become white people. Every change is introduced based on things they already know. The second reason, Bruce believes, is because of the Holy Spirit. Without it, Bruce believes, that there can be not lasting change or development.
