Brother Odd is told from the first person perspective of Odd Thomas, the main character. Not officially a Brother, Odd is staying at a monastery, looking for a break from a life that left him temporary lifeless. Having lost his girlfriend and the love of his life, Odd has trouble finding purpose in his life. Odd Thomas lives up to his moniker. He has a peculiar ability to see the disenfranchised souls caught between this world and the next. To Odd, they are every bit as real as anyone else, even warm to the touch, but no one else can see them. Somehow, they convey to Odd what they need, and he tries to help them to carry on to the next life.
