Wine is an important metaphor in the novel, Brideshead Revisited. In context, it is used to define certain behaviors, and also to explain intolerance for specific behaviors.... primarily homosexuality. Wine is used to describe tastes... things that are enjoyed; wickedness.... things that are frowned upon or associated with darkness; and also undrinkable.... inappropriate for English consumption.
