Who is Bartleby in Bone by Jeff Smith?

Bartleby is a tiny, baby, rat creature. Smiley Bone finds Bartleby and serves as an adoptive parent until other rat creatures are found to take over his care. Later, when the Bones are attacked by the rat creatures, Bartleby not only rescues them.... he goes home with them.
