What is the author's tone in the memoir, Blue Nights?

Blue Nights is written in a very literary, figurative, almost musical tone which gives the book the quality of a dream or a memory. Didion also asks many rhetorical and Socratic questions throughout the book, thus establishing a contemplative and meditative tone.
