Animal nature is another theme in this story. As a vampire, Jody gives in to her animal nature. She becomes a hunter and a predator. She is driven to feed, and she is driven to have sex. When she kills, Jody sees it as a natural act, something that feels right and something that is meant to happen. Her animal nature rises to the surface. Her animal nature is also something dangerous, though. She puts herself and Tommy in danger from both the law and the vampire. Society is appalled by both Jody's need to kill and her sexuality, as evidenced by the reactions of the saleswoman when Jody buys her little black dress.
