Pocahontas, Chief Powhatan's daughter, saves Captain Smith from execution by her father's men and comes to James Town with gifts of food soon after the arrival of the second wave of colonists. She is about ten-years-old at the time the colonists first meet her, and "Pocahontas", which is her nickname, means "playful one."
