Who is James from the novel, Blood on the River?

James is the nine-year-old boy, who serves as a servant to one of the gentlemen. He is described as a fearful boy, and as a result, he is often mistreated by Samuel. When the Indians attack the settlement, James attempts to run to the ship and is killed. Samuel feels responsible for his death.
