Samuel, Richard, James, Captain Smith, Reverend Hunt and several gentlemen travel to James Town aboard the Susan Constant. They are never permitted on deck except when emptying slop pails or getting food buckets, and they are confined to the "'tween deck," which is described as stinky, hot and unpleasant during their journey.
