Reverend Hunt's desire to convert the native to Christianity is an example of culture clash because he cannot understand that his sharing of Christianity is a cultural exchange, rather than a conversion. When Namontack returns from England, Reverend Hunt sees his refusal to adopt Christianity as nothing more than a simple misunderstanding, he is disappointed to find otherwise. The natives have their own ways, and they have no interest in adopting foreign way without necessity.
