Who is Augie Valcroix from Blood Test and what is their importance?

Augie Valcroix is a physician, he is a throwback to the hippie period and is using a great deal of drugs. He considers himself something of a ladies' man and routinely seduces the females of the families with sick children in the hospital. He discovers the secrets of the situation involving Woody and Nona Swope and tries to blackmail a cult leader, but is killed.
