Who is Black Elk from Black Elk Speaks?

Black Elk was a member of the Lakota tribe, second cousin to Crazy Horse, and an eyewitness at the Battle of Little Bighorn. Black Elk toured with the well known Buffalo Bill's Wild West show and eventually settled in the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Late in life, Black Elk converted to Christianity.
