Though Anne becomes and remains sober, alcohol and drugs are part of her coping with the rejection inherent in the publishing process. True to Anne's socially conscious upbringing, she describes the drinking as social. However, she makes sure to share there were hundreds of social drinks and the small bit of cocaine.
