Birches, a poem by Robert Frost, does not truly 'have' a protagonist per se, though there are several characters mentioned by the poet. He mentions a farm boy playing on the trees and bending them to the ground, he mentions that the trees are often like girls throwing their hair over their head to dry in the sun. So, actually, the only true protagonist are the birches, themselves, bending but not breaking under the weight and strain of life amongst human beings and the elements.
