The Robert Frost Poem, Birches, is set on a New England farm, far away from the town. It was first published in 1915 right when World War I had begun. Some of this is woven into the subtle imagery (that of conquest in the middle) that suggests that even with an idyllic setting, not everything should be taken as literally as it is presented.
