Why did Baby Suggs give upand die

In Morrison's, Beloved, Baby Suggs eventually "gives up and dies" because she has lost her children, her view on community, and her purpose it life because of slavery. She attained her freedom, but that freedom was worth nothing when all she truly cared about was gone.
