Mrs. Freke is the main enemy of the novel. She used to be Lady Delacour's friend and is now her enemy, and she becomes the enemy of Belinda too. She is an unrespectable, wild woman who behaves shamefully without the slightest remorse. She does not particularly care what people think of her as long as she is being talked about. She is a huge attention seeker and enjoys making other people the butt of her jokes. She led Lady Delacour on, pushing her into bad behavior and leading her into a situation in which she injured her breast. She also helped bring about the death of Lawless.
