How does the author use foreshadowing in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns?

In Book II, the Joker has come out of his comatose state, and Batman's return has
snapped him back to reality. The way he approaches the Arkham facility's administrator through Dr. Wolper is indicative of the fact that he is up to no good, foreshadowing his future comeback into crime.
