What caused Saxo to fall?

Saxo breaks his guide principles when he abandons Winter and Franz to press for the top alone. When pursued by Rudi, he threatens the boy to make him stay away and give Saxo the victory. This anger is his downfall, as he slips and injures his arm arguing with Rudi and has to be rescued.
