One of the most important themes in Babylon Revisited is that of wealth and poverty. Over the course of the novel, we come to understand Charlie's regret for the way he treated his wife and daughter while he celebrated his wealth and success..... subsequently losing it all in the Stock Market crash of 1929. Charlie lives with the guilt of his wifes death and fights for his daughter, all while rebuilding the fortune he lost..... a fortune he would look upon far differently than the one he lost.
