The language of the graphic novel is very casual. Because most of the story is told through the illustrations, many of the sentences are actually fragments that assist in explaining what is going on exactly in the picture. The language is very conversational, modern day English. There are many cliches and famous quotes that appear throughout the work; for example, toward the end, Caesar tells Crimus Bonus to "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's." This quotation appears in the New Testament of the King James Version of the Bible, as well as in many other works. Cliches often commonly appear as well.
