Roman treachery is a recurring idea throughout Asterix the Gaul. First, when Caligula Minus returns from his assignment as a spy on the Gaulish Village, he is attacked as soon as the potion wears off. The very act of sending a spy to the Gaulish Village is treacherous in itself. Then, Crismus Bonus kidnaps Getafix, an act that seems quite cruel, followed by torture which is inhumane.
