The Haughty Knight of the Heath is the maiden's lover. When he learns that Perceval has stolen both a kiss and the maiden's ring, he swears that she will wear the same clothes until he beheads her assailant. A long period of time passes before Perceval sees a girl riding a lean palfrey and wearing a holey dress, and although, he does not recognize her, she recognizes him and warns him away before the knight can return to kill him. When the knight returns, he tells the story of the maiden's disgrace, leading Perceval to admit that he is the one the Haughty Knight of the Heath is looking for. They fight; Perceval wins. Perceval then grants mercy under the agreement that the Haughty Knight has the maiden bathed and healed, after which, he must offer his services to King Arthur and tell the queen all that he made the maiden endure. The Haughty Knight of the Heath agrees and travels to King Arthur's lands.
