One of the first indications that it is going to be rough is the fact that Peter has been allowed to bring his cat. Anne had to leave hers behind and it was her understanding that no one could bring their pets. Yet, here Peter is with Mouschi. It indicates that the Van Daans may not follow the rules all of the time.
