Livesay's writing style flashes back and forth from venture to venture and year to year within a chapter in order to illustrate the development of Carnegie's skills, circumstances and investments. His style is also full of historical and chronological points of history to give Carnegie's story texture and complexion beyond any assumption of a linear personal life history.
