When an author writes a story there are several key choices that he or she faces. First, there is the choice of a protagonist. They have to have sufficient character flaws and traits that will make it likely for them to follow in the course that they choose. Secondly, the author has to determine what that protagonist fears the most....and make it happen (or threaten to happen).
