The two main characters of the story are the astrologer, who is not given a name, and Guru Nayak, the client who turns out to be a former victim, now on a quest for revenge. It is made immediately apparent that the astrologer is a charlatan who knows nothing about the future but is a shrewd judge of character. It is also made clear that the client is angry and aggressive. In the end, we learn that the client is the man the Astrologer believed he'd stabbed and killed years before.
