This is really asking for your opinion rather than mine. I might consider Javier Crespo Fuentes: a very complex and layered character. There is a duality about Javier as he speaks fondly of his daughter and bestows thoughtful gifts to Lydia. Yet alongside this behavior, he runs the cartel were known to "dismember their victims and rearrange their body parts into a horror show tableaux" (145). Although he was not as brutal as other cartel leaders, he is "merciless, and ultimately delusional" (146). His delusion becomes clear to Lydia when he asks her to understand his situation after she tells him she is aware of who he is.
