At one point, Sarah sees that Bell is walking around in the house in bare feet, which is a symbol of Bell's wealth and privilege, especially compared to Sarah's circumstances. Sarah says she has never had the luxury of spending time barefoot. Her feet and toenails are now ugly because of the brutal nature of her life.
