New York is important to Hamilton's story because it was the first place Alexander traveled to when he arrived in the colonies. New York was also a vital location during the Revolutionary War, as it was surrounded by water and difficult to protect from the powerful British Naval force. New York is also where the Continental Army finally won the war in a calculated attack on Yorktown, leading to a British surrender. Alexander considered New York to be his home.
