A banjo symbolizes things not being as they seem. A happy sounding intsrument, the banjo music was mainly played to distract from the illegal behavior of Al Capone's cellmate. Al Capone plays the banjo while his cellmate, Seven Fingers, saws through the cell bars for escape. The music distracts from - and disguises - the sound of the sawing.
