Maxine Patch from A Year Down Yonder is the post mistress in town. She has a reputation for chasing every eligible bachelor within distance of the town. So, when Arnold Green comes to town (the artist) she sets her sights on him. Later, she agrees to pose nude for him in Grandma Dowdel's attic, but ends up embarrassed when a snake drops down on her while she is naked causing her to run into the streets. After that the town is determined to run Arnold out of town for being a bad influence.
